At Burnett Barker Solicitors, we’re not your usual local solicitors. When you step inside our office and meet our people, you’ll soon discover that we’re down-to-earth and extremely friendly. That’s because we care as much about people as we do about the law. So what’s it like to work at Burnett Barker Solicitors?
We’re all about people
We believe that the best way to back our clients is to support and look after our people.
As well as working alongside awesome and engaging personalities, there are lots of ways we help our team to do their best and enjoy their job.
Positive work-life balance
We recognise the value of having a healthy work-life balance. That’s why we say to our staff (even our lawyers) that we do not expect them to be in the office before 8.30am or stay later than 6.30pm. Clearly there are times when work needs to be completed, but it is a system that works well for us. As a result our staff are happier and motivated.
Learning and opportunities for all
From the moment a person joins us, we make sure they feel supported in their role. We never just leave someone to it.
During the probation period, we have regular one-to-one catch-ups. Quite often we’ll go out and grab a coffee and cake or if the weather’s nice, we’ll go for a walk and talk in the park.
Learning never stops and we recognise this. That’s why we encourage and fund professional development, from webinars and qualifications to sharing knowledge on our intranet.
For our lawyers, we offer full access to Practical Law and pay Practising Certificate fees, and external courses relevant to their specialisation.
We also use cloud-enabled practice software so that our people work smarter rather than harder.
We care about the things that matter to our employees.
Although offering legal advice is what we do, we also appreciate that our solicitors and support staff have a life outside of work, and we’re supportive of this.
As such, we offer flexible working for those who need it and we welcome applications from parents and those with caring needs.
We care about those important milestones in life, which is why we allow staff to take a day off for their child’s first day at school and an extra week off for their honeymoon. As you would expect, we also offer discounted legal services for our staff, their friends and family.
We’re like one big family.
Working in a busy environment, it’s important that the working environment is just right. We have a friendly open-planned office that makes it easy to collaborate with other members of the team and full back-office and marketing support.
For anyone who knows us, we love a good cuppa and have a wide range of free refreshments. We also welcome dogs into the office. In fact, at the time of writing, we have three puppies who call Burnett Barker their second home!
Our community
Making sure that everyone feels welcome and included is important to us. That’s why we make the effort to schedule social events (BBQs, quizzes and pizza/donut/pancake platters). We love celebrating big birthdays, retirements and always take the time to send-off any leavers. Our staff kitchen is always well stocked with refreshments and nibbles!
We also have a firmwide social WhatsApp group and recognise and celebrate one another’s successes! That’s the beauty of working for a smaller law firm rather than a big practice.
