Cyber Essentials – we’ve been certified!

Blog

We are pleased to have recently been awarded our Cyber Essentials certification.

As a law firm, you can no doubt imagine what type of confidential, personal data we could hold, so we take cyber security very seriously.

Cyber attacks come in many shapes and sizes, but the vast majority are actually pretty basic, carried out by relatively unskilled individuals.

This is why we’ve taken steps to ensure our IT is secure and to protect the data stored on all of our devices through the government-backed Cyber Essentials scheme.

The Cyber Essentials scheme addresses the most common Internet-based threats to cyber security — particularly, attacks that use widely available tools and demand little skill. The scheme considers these threats to be:

  • hacking
Exploiting known vulnerabilities in Internet-connected devices, using widely available tools and techniques
  • phishing
And other ways of tricking users into installing or executing a malicious application
  • password guessing
Manual or automated attempts to log on from the Internet, by guessing passwords

“The Cyber Essentials certification demonstrates our commitment to cyber security.”

In order to gain the certification, a remote technical assessment was carried out of our system including an external vulnerability scan, to independently validate the information we and our systems providers provided as part of the assessment process.

Our systems and ICT defences were subsequently assessed as meeting the Cyber Essentials standards against commodity-based cyber attacks.

We’d like to thank local security specialists, Labsec, based in Bury St Edmunds for helping us with the process of gaining our certification, as well as our go-to IT support guys Green Duck, also based in Bury St Edmunds.
