As an independent business ourselves, we’re proud to say that, as a town, Bury St Edmunds is home to 20% more independent businesses than the national average. It’s one of the things that makes it such a special place to live and work.
Once again, we’ll join our friends at Our Bury St Edmunds (Business Improvement District) in celebrating everything our local business community has to offer during Independents Week (4 – 10 July 2022).
Being based in the town centre ourselves, we simply couldn’t imagine Bury St Edmunds without its unique, creative and vibrant collection of shops, restaurants and stalls. So, if you see us sharing stories and offers from other local businesses during the week, you’ll know why.
Speaking about the event, Daryl Griffiths, Chief Executive of Burnett Barker Solicitors, said:
“It has been a tough couple of years for all businesses, especially smaller independents who rely on the town centre footfall. Independents Week is a reminder to us all just how important it is to shop locally.
“We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to start the celebrations than gathering on Angel Hill on Monday 4th July with the Our Bury St Edmunds team and other BID members.”
We’re not sure how many people will be on Angel Hill, but if the past 11 years have been anything to go by, it’ll be a lot. After all, there are 290 independent businesses. To put this number into context, that’s 59% of Bury St Edmunds’ businesses.
We’re proud to say that we’re in that 59% and as an active BID member, we continue to support the local economy wherever we can.
This means that if you want a recommendation for an independent shop and eatery, we’ll happily point you in the right direction.
